Wales is a most excellent place to start Canoeing and getting the right help from the start is very important, with a wealth of outdoor centres and venues.
One of the many clubs which are affiliated to the Welsh Canoeing Association will also be an excellent starting point. They do lessons around Wales and can help you on your way onto you canoe.
If you have a fear of water, make sure you try and kayaking. Choose the sea, gentle lake, estuary or white water of all grades. It may sound silly but the more you go on water the less scary it becomes. If you believe you can do it, then theres no need to be scared. The only thing which happens in a canoe if you fall out is you get wet. The canoe will roll over anyway and you automatically fall out into the water anyway. Then you just resurface and either clamber onto your canoe and tip it back to the normal state or swim to shore and try it again. Go on give it a go. You'll really like it.
